FAQ

Where are tide clocks most effective?

Tidal Timepieces are semi-diurnal tide clocks, designed to track the two high tides and two low tides that occur each day. They are calibrated for use in areas with predictable semi-diurnal tides, such as the East Coast of the United States, the Caribbean, and many coastal areas in Western Europe. However, they are not suitable for areas with irregular tides, such as the Gulf of Mexico and some areas on the West Coast of the United States.

How do I set my tide clock?

Setting your tide clock only involves a few simple steps:

  1. Identify the next high tide in your area. You can find this information through online tools like the NOAA Tide Predictions tool or Tides Near Me app.
  2. Locate the round adjustment knob, found on the back of the movement.
  3. Turn the adjustment knob to set the tide hand to the high tide position during the next high tide in your area.

It’s generally best to set the tide hand at high tide during a full or new moon. If this isn’t possible, check the reading of the tide hand at the next full or new moon and adjust as necessary.

Why is my tide clock not accurate?

If your tide clock does not indicate high tide at the next full or new moon after setting it, you may need to adjust it using the wheel on the back of the movement. Keep in mind that semi-diurnal tide clocks may require weekly adjustments for optimum results due to the complex nature of tides and their influencing factors.
